(it pisses the hell out of me, honestly). And the last point is my personal opinion, but I find myself hating Twelve for his half smiley act cutey face. They deliberately made one of his underdogs kinda of disrespect him at the start and only to have him follow Shibazaki like a dog in the later few episodes without any explanation? Zankyou no terror certainly sets the standard high for the show with the most useless, retarded cast of unlikable characters that no one would give a damn about.
ZANKYOU NO TERROR LISA SERIES
Well, Shibazaki is the most likeable character in the whole series no doubt, but he doesn’t do much either. Her character design is shit ugly and she gives off the vibe of “hey we’re lacking an antagonist so let’s put one in for the sake of doing so!”. (Raise your hand if you cringed whenever she spoke english), until the end we never got to see why she was obsessed over Nine and/or Twelve. And don’t get be started on Five, who is like one of the worst antagonists ever. They are just one dimensional shit heads without any personality. (Heck, Nine and Twelve hardly had any meaningful conversation between themselves anyway).Īpart from the mystery of how her boobs suddenly became bigger towards the last few episodes, she is a character that made no difference in the world of ZnT, but yet taking up one of the most screen times. She does nothing really for the plot, and hardly engages in any meaningful conversation with her two companions, Nine and Twelve. She spends all a time getting in the way or talking about herself getting in the way. Lisa comes to most people’s mind and I think she deserves an award for the most useless anime “main characters” ever.
Zankyou no terror has seriously downright boring and terrible characters. I guess Shibazaki wasn’t actually really as smart as the series tried to portray because all he did was to look in his books (after all, the place he had been working at was some archives right?). I ain’t no historian, and I have no fucks to give about Japanese politics, some atomic bomb history, or whatever Von means in some random Icelandic language. Again, every puzzle or intellectual aspect in Zankyou no terror is somewhat based on some historic/random/outside knowledge fact.

ZnT is the perfect example of how to not try to act smart. (I happen to know it only because of a cryptography class I took) A trick in such a psychological/game theory/detective kind of series has to be memorable, meaningful and engaging. definitely not by using gimmicky Oedipus stories or a 2 second mention of the Caesar Cipher and never mention it ever again. But nope, not today, not tomorrow and never. I can tell ZnT aspires to be of that same level. Please for god sake learn from the real masters of intellectual/smart anime/manga such as Death Note or Liar Game.
Not many people give a damn about the oedipus story. I mean, if you wanted to really be smart and engage audiences in an intellectual fashion you should have used puzzles/riddles that were NOT fundamentally based on contextual/outside knowledge. The riddles were lame, lacklustre and totally uncool. It is a superficial series that tries too hard. And here I painstakingly bring you a review of our beloved Zankyou no terrible. Why did I go through all that trouble to finish it then? Because I thought if I wanted to be objective and fair, I should have at least seen this anime to the last episode in order to do a review. (thanks VLC) At the midway point (when Five appeared), I knew I didn’t give a single fuck about the series or the characters anymore. I had to watch the last few episodes at 1.5x speed just to get through the content. (*coughs* beautiful? better than death note? You got to be fucking kidding me.) And there I was right. Soon enough,more praises came in and this series grew a fandom of obnoxious fanboys.
Remember the first episode that everyone was singing praises about? Yeah, I already kinda knew that this series was going to be pretentious and superficial. I knew it, and I kinda called it as early as first few episodes in. And to be honest, this series never had what it took to be the best series of the season anyway.
Okay here we go, the official “best anime of the season” (*ahem* from the bottom). I won’t take responsibility for any butt hurt-ness. If you have an inverse opinion from mine, you’ll probably end up butt hurt. this post contains highly opinionated stuff. Someone please rename this anime “Zankyou no terrible”.Īnyway, warning.
